Scope
1.1
This Standard describes the technical requirements and procedures necessary for the design, performance and testing of new or unused flameproof, diesel-powered, non-rail-bound, self- propelled machines for use in gassy underground mines. The working environment of such mines is characterized by the presence of methane gas and combustible dust.
1.2
The spontaneous ignition temperature of such combustible dust is specified to be a minimum of 150°C (300°F). This value is the maximum allowable machine surface temperature for the purposes of this Standard.
1.3
This Standard applies to machines of 45 000 kg (100 000 lb) mass or less, which are designed to operate on level ground at a maximum speed of 32 km/h (20 mph) or less.
1.4
Performance of a certified machine from a standpoint such as water scrubber functioning etc, shall be evaluated at a reference grade of 20% for the purpose of this Standard unless otherwise noted.
1.5
The values given in SI (metric) units are the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only.
1.6
Braking system performance requirements and proof tests are not included in the scope of this Standard, except from the standpoint of the reduction of fire and explosion hazards.
Brake construction, stopping performance and test requirements will be prepared by a Canadian Standards Association Technical Committee formed to produce a comprehensive brake standard for a wide variety of underground and surface mining machines.
