Scope
1.1
This Standard applies to safety considerations in the design, construction, installation, testing and startup, operation, maintenance, and training requirements for industrial robots and robot systems.
1.2
This Standard is intended to provide guidelines for industrial robot manufacture, robot system installation, and methods of safeguarding to enhance the safety of personnel associated with the use of robots and robot systems.
Note: As used in this Standard, the words robot or robot system are intended to mean industrial robots or industrial robot systems as defined in Clause 2.
1.3
This Standard is intended to provide general guidelines for the interface of industrial equipment with the robot or robot system but does not provide specific requirements for this equipment.
1.4
This Standard does not apply to systems that include, but are not limited to
(a) personal robots;
(b) automatic guided vehicle systems;
(c) undersea and space robots;
(d) automated storage and retrieval systems;
(e) automatic conveyor and shuttle systems;
(f) teleoperators;
(g) mobile robots;
(h) prosthetics and other aids for the handicapped; and
(i) numerically controlled machine tools.
